Der Markt Windorf kann auf eine über 1000-jährige lebhafte und wechselvolle Geschichte zurückblicken. Das Schiffsbauhandwerk, die sogenannte "Schopperei", hat Windorf bis weit über seine Grenzen bekannt gemacht. Durch seine einzigartige Lage erfreut sich der Markt Windorf mit seinen Ortsteilen Rathsmannsdorf und Ottterskirchen eines sehr milden und angenehmen Klimas. Unser ausgedehntes Wanderwegenetz führt Sie vorbei an romantischen Plätzen und regionalen Sehenswürdigkeiten. Die Donau und unsere traditionsreiche Gastronomie, aber auch ein breitgefächertes Aktivprogramm mit Wandern, Angeln, Radfahren und vielem anderen mehr macht den Markt Windorf zu einem beliebten Urlaubsort. Nicht umsonst wurde uns das Prädikat "Staatlich anerkannter Erholungsort" verliehen. Durch die gute Verkehrsanbindung ist der Markt Windorf ein idealer Ausgangspunkt für Ausflüge in den Nationalpark Bayerischer Wald, Passau, Tschechien oder in das nur 20 km entfernte Österreich. Genießen und "erfahren" Sie aktiv den Donau-RAd-Weg oder starten Sie auf der längsten Flussinsel Deutschlands eine Schifffahrt auf dem letzten freifließenden Teil der Donau.
In der Dauerausstellung "Alte Donauschiffe" kann der Besucher auf interessante und anschauliche Weise die enge geschichtliche Verbindung Windorfs mit der Donau nachvollziehen.
Der im Jahr 1712 entstandene Hochaltar in der Pfarrkirche St. Michael in Otterskirchen gilt als der schönste Akanthusaltar in der niederbayerischen Region.
Einen herrlichen Blick in das Donautal bietet der im Jahr 1887 errichtete hölzerne Aussichtsturm in Ebersberg.
